How We Think About AI
Last updated: April 2026
Your Daily Shift exists to help people practice the ideas, beliefs, and principles that matter to them. That practice depends on trust — trust that the content arriving in your inbox is what it says it is, and that the platform holding it is honest about how it works.
This page explains how AI is and isn’t used across the product — in the content, in the platform, and with your data.
The Short Version
- Every Series in the Library is labeled if AI was used to generate any of its Shift content.
- You can filter AI-generated content out of the Library entirely.
- Your personal data is not used to train AI models.
- AI tools are used in building and operating this platform. We’re transparent about where and how below.
AI and Content
This is the area that matters most, so it gets the most detail.
What “AI-generated” means here
When we say a Series is AI-generated, we mean that the content of one or more Shifts within that Series — the words that arrive in your inbox — was written or substantially drafted by an AI tool. This also applies to any linked content a Shift points to as further reading or context.
That’s the scope. The label is about the message itself — the thing you’re practicing with.
What the label does NOT cover
A Series without the AI label means the Shift content is human-written. It does not mean that AI was never involved in any adjacent step. A creator might use AI to brainstorm a Series outline, check grammar, or format text — just as any writer today might. In the modern digital landscape, drawing an absolute line between “AI-touched” and “AI-free” is neither practical nor honest.
What we can be clear about is the content itself: the words in the Shift. That’s what the label addresses.
Creator expectations
Creators who publish Series to the Library are expected to accurately mark whether AI was used in generating Shift content. This is a matter of integrity within the community, and it is taken seriously. If you are a creator, be honest. If you used AI to write the words a person will receive and sit with and practice — say so.
Filtering
You can filter AI-generated Series out of the Library. This is a straightforward toggle. If you only want to receive content written by a human being, you have that option.
AI and Your Data
Your data belongs to you. Content you write — your personal Shifts, your preferences, your delivery history — is not shared with AI services for training purposes.
When AI features are introduced in the future that would process your input (for example, helping you write a Shift or suggesting a Series), those features will be clearly identified, and your content will not be retained by any AI provider beyond what is needed to fulfill the request.
AI and Platform Development
This application is built and maintained by a solo developer, and AI tools are part of that process. In the interest of full transparency:
Code and engineering.AI tools are used extensively in writing code, debugging, planning architecture, and building features. This is how a single person can build and maintain a product of this scope. The code is reviewed, tested, and owned by a human — but AI is a daily collaborator in the development process.
Design and copy. AI tools assist with drafting interface copy, refining layouts, and exploring design directions. Final decisions are made by a human.
Operations.AI tools may be used in monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the platform’s infrastructure.
Content curation. The seed content in the Library is drawn from public domain works — books by authors like James Allen and translations of texts like the Dhammapada. The process of extracting, formatting, and organizing that content into Series and Shifts may involve AI assistance. The source material itself is human-authored, and every source is attributed.
What This Comes Down To
This platform celebrates human ideas. The books, the teachings, the beliefs, the hard-won principles that people have put into words to help other people — that is what this product exists to deliver. AI is a tool in service of that mission, not a replacement for it.
Where AI touches the content you practice with, you’ll know. Where it doesn’t, you can trust that. And where it helps build the thing that delivers that content to you every morning — we’d rather be honest about that than pretend otherwise.
